Relaxing in the BWCA

We are a "small by choice" BWCA canoe trip outfitter specializing in wilderness high adventure into the Minnesota Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness or Quetico Provencial Park. Our Boundary Waters canoe trips include fishing, camping, hiking, birding and wildlife photography. Fishing for smallmouth bass, walleye, northern pike, and lake trout in the BWCA is a special experience. We personally plan unique trips for couples, families, friends, fishermen, youth and Scout groups.

Clearwater Canoe Outfitters and Lodge is located mid-point the Gunflint Trail, just a mile south of the historic Voyageur Canoe Route, which created the boundary between the U.S. and Canada. BWCA boundaries include most of 7 mile long Clearwater Lake, whose majestic palisades are visible from our dock. This more remote eastern section of the wilderness is a particularly scenic one, filled with spectacular bluffs, falls, and crystal-clear waters. Clearwater Lake is a designated entry point into the BWCA.

Along our wooded peninsula are seven waterfront secluded cabins for you enjoy the peace and solitude of the BWCA with family and friends. Our housekeeping cabins are great for taking day trips into the BWCA, hiking, fishing or just enjoying all the wilderness has to offer. The cabins are open year round to enjoy this very special and unique area.

Clearwater Lodge, the only resort on Clearwater Lake, was finished in 1926 by MN pioneer Charlie Boostrom and is the oldest original whole log structure in northeastern Minnesota. On the National Register of Historic Places, it has retained the look and feel of earlier times. The lounge area has a large stone fireplace surrounded by one of the finest collections of diamond willow furniture along the Gunflint Trail. The wide verandah porch enjoys a view of the majestic palisades of Clearwater Lake.

There is no other place like it on this scale, in the world. This fantastic network is yours to discover, as you return to a time that has not, after all, been lost. Check out our gift shop for ordering your favorite Clearwater shirts, mugs, photo albums, hats and more.
