How to share a land we love, and yet keep it a wilderness worthy of the name. How to take the best of what today's technology offers in canoes and camping gear, in order to go back in time to yesterday's slower, more natural pace.

A satisfying canoe trip depends, above all, on your own expectations and what you choose to make of them. At Clearwater we listen to what you are looking for, then share our own paddling experience by suggesting appropriate routes and providing the support of comfortable, efficient equipment that we have found best suited to canoe/camping in the wilderness.

A profession should be the natural outgrowth of what one likes and does best in life. Canoe Outfitting is our profession. As the years pass, it should remain something one excels in and still has the time to enjoy. We have chosen to remain small enough to give personal attention to our guests, and to (most of the time!) keep things calm at our home and in "our" woods.
Your confidence, as you begin your trip, and your satisfaction when you return, will be the measure of our own success.
Sincerely,
Peggy & Mike Trace, Lynn Pauloski

Clearwater Canoe Outfitters and Lodge Means Quality
We-no-nah Canoes is one of the most well-respected companies leading the way in the design and construction of "state-of-the-art" canoes. The advanced lines and materials of these boats mean that you can travel faster - and with much greater ease - go further into the wilderness in the time you have for your trip. We currently carry We-no-nah's Sundowner, Minnesota II, and Prism models, most in cross-rib or foam core kevlar construction. This year we have added the newly designed Sundowner Royalex canoes to our We-no-nah line for those wanting We-no-nah quality with exceptional wilderness durability.
Alumacraft or Grumman, at 62 Ibs., light weight aluminum canoes are the workhorse of the Boundary Waters.
Perception Aquaterra "Sea Lion" touring kayaks offer a new experience, especially for the long, narrow, and selected minimum portage lakes of the BWCA. These kayaks can also be used for fun and flexibility when there is an uneven number in your canoe party.
Our concern for greater quality, more comfort, and lighter weight are reflected in all our equipment packages. WE ARE THE ONLY OUTFITTER IN THE BWCA OFFERING SUCH A COMPLETE PACKAGE OF SUPERIOR GEAR AND FOOD. Try us once, and you will never want anything less.
We were chosen by BACKPACKER Magazine to outfit, lodge, and provide guide service plus technical assistance for the PBS adventure television series. The setting for this series is located in the BWCA in nearby Mountain, Moose, North and South Fowl Lakes and the Pigeon River through the Grand Portage. The show, CANOEING A VOYAGEUR FUR-TRADE ROUTE (in two Parts). Intrepid French Canadian canoemen, called Voyageurs, turned a vast web of waterways along the U.S./Canadian Border into the "interstate highways" of the fur trade. The series is hosted by John Veihman, executive editor of BACKPACKER Magazine.
OUTDOOR LIFE Magazine chose Clearwater Canoe Outfitters and Lodge to provide lodging, outfitting and guide service for an article in the Frugal Fisherman series. The article, which appeared in early 1997, was filmed at near-by Boundary Waters lakes portaged from Clearwater Lake. The experts caught in excess of twenty-five large northern pike in their two and half day trip.
OUTDOOR LIFE editor R.J. Malloy commented that few places can compare to Clearwater Lodge's natural beauty and historic past, and recommends Clearwater as his "outfitter of choice" for both experts and neophytes.
